Who Would I Like to Talk to Soon?— A Letter to My Future Self

If I could talk to anyone right now, it wouldn’t be a celebrity, an old friend, or even someone I lost. It would be… her.
The version of me who’s walked further down this path — the one who has seen what I can only imagine, who knows how all of this unfolds.

I wonder what she’d say if we sat down for a quiet conversation.
Would she smile knowingly, or would her eyes carry the weight of the storms I’m only just learning to weather?
Would she thank me for being brave with my dreams, or gently warn me about the detours I never saw coming?

I’d ask her if the late nights were worth it.
If the words I write now ever reached someone’s heart.
If the love I’m still learning to give myself finally blossomed.
And most of all, I’d ask her if she’s proud of me — not for what I achieved, but for how I kept going.

Talking to my future self feels like seeking comfort in hope — in the belief that things will make sense one day. That every uncertain step, every quiet prayer, every leap of faith… was not in vain.

So to her, wherever she is in time —
I hope you’re smiling.
I hope you’ve grown into the softness and strength I’m trying so hard to build now.
And I hope you look back at me — me-the now me with gratitude… because I never gave up on becoming you.

Tanisha, what a beautiful time capsule you’ve created here! Your letter reminded me that we’re all just having conversations with our future selves without realizing it. There’s something wonderfully meta about you writing to your future self, while your future self might someday look back at this very post with that knowing smile you described.

The part about asking if she’s proud of you “not for what I achieved, but for how I kept going” hit home. Aren’t we all secretly hoping our future selves will forgive our current stumbles and appreciate our persistence?

Thank you for this moment of reflection in my otherwise scrolling-filled day. Your words created a little pocket of stillness where I found myself wondering what questions I’d ask my future self too (though I suspect she’d just tell me to stop procrastinating and go to bed earlier!).

Looking forward to more of your thoughts finding their way to the interwebs.

Thank you so much…your words truly touched me. 💛
I love how you called it a time capsule that’s exactly what it felt like. And yes, maybe our future selves are just hoping we’re little kinder to ourselves along the way.

Your comment felt like a quiet little echo of the same questions I had. Grateful you paused to share it.✨
